Golden milk or golden latte has its origins on ayurvedic medicine. Ayurveda is the traditional Indian medicine with ancient knowledge in the use of herbs and spices. Golden milk is a drink with an intense yellow colour and the main ingredients are milk and turmeric. This is a warm drink that strengthens the immune system and has several other health benefits. In this post we share the recipe we make for ourselves at home. Watch the video at the end.
Benefits of Golden Milk
There are several possible recipes for golden milk and each person can adapt to their taste. Here are the benefits of the ingredients we use in our recipe.
Milk
Golden milk can be made of cow's milk or vegetable milk of your choice (almond, oat, rice, coconut, etc). Making golden milk with vegetable milk has the advantage of being lactose-free and being rich in fibers that help better functioning of the intestines.
Turmeric
The key ingredient in golden milk is turmeric, a rhizome that has a component called curcumin to which numerous health benefits are attributed, as well as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-tumour properties.

Black Pepper
Curcumin is a nutrient little absorbed by the organism. The addition of black pepper will enhance the absorption of curcumin, due to the presence of piperine. This is a substance to be found in pepper that increases the absorption capacity.
Coconut Oil
The absorption of curcumin is also enhanced by the addition of a healthy fat such as coconut oil or ghee. The presence of a fat also helps to better dissolve turmeric that does not dissolve so easily in water.
Honey
Honey, in addition to adding all its properties to this drink, also serves as a natural sweetener. If you are vegan you can use maple syrup as an alternative.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, helps with better digestion and gives a very pleasant flavour to the drink.
